WHY BOTHER WITH VIBRATION CONTROL ?
Crystal Cloud isolation products are designed to eliminate structural vibration excited in the structure of the listening room. Isolation is achieved using wide bandwidth mechanical filters.
Removing vibration has a profound effect on system performance improving sound staging, tonal balance, timing, treble focus, bass extension and detail.
Most structural vibration is generated by the loudspeakers. The magnitude of this vibration depends on the volume the loudspeakers are reproducing; an increase in volume will excite more vibration in the structure of the room. This is true for both long loud sections of music and short high level bursts. Quiet sections of music are also affected because the room stores and then dissipates vibration after a preceding loud section has stopped. These changes in volume or transients are a fundamental part of all types of music.
The Isofloat platform uses compliant isolators and the mass of the equipment that is being isolated to filter unwanted vibration. This system ensures excellent immunity to shock and steady state vibration.
The isolators used in the Isofloat are made from a compliant material which deforms under the mass of the equipment it supports. Isolation begins above the resonant frequency of the isolator / mass combination. Vibration above the resonant frequency does not excite the top plate because it is stored by the isolator and dissipated at the resonant frequency.
It is obvious that for maximum bandwidth low resonant frequencies are desirable. Low resonant frequencies can be achieved by stacking platforms. Vibration is also dissipated by the mass of the extra top plates and plinths as it travels through the stack.
